Mike Steele’s “Two-Phase” Strategy

In a column titled “Republicans Have Forgotten Who They Are,” Cal Thomas writes how Mike Steele revealed, in a recent interview, that he is in the "second phase" of a two-phase approach for re-structuring the GOP.

Just out of curiosity, what was the first stage?

Okay, I have to admit that living in Eastern Europe has put me somewhat "out-of-touch," but I don't recall any mention of phase one. Was that phase simply getting elected to the RNC chairmanship?   Has anyone seen or read anything about the first phase?

When asked by Cal Thomas whether or not he was going to heed the few voices calling for his resignation, Mike Steele responded with a resounding “No!” He further added, “And shame on (those) who should have the cojones to at least come and talk to me.”

Well, Mr. Steele, I’m talking to you right now.

Perhaps it is time for you to re-think your so-called “two-phase” strategy, Mr. Steele. From what I can tell, it doesn’t appear to be off to a good start.

What we need in the GOP, right now, is effective leadership. Here is my outline of what I believe the GOP leadership should do:

  1. 1.    Clearly define the course of the party and its vision. There should be no ambiguities and written as a business would write a mission statement – clear and concise.
  2. 2.    Vociferously advocate that vision at every opportunity, through every venue: television, radio, newspapers, internet, etc. Every leader, at all levels, should be doing this – from the national level all the way down to the local party.
  3. 3.    Hold regular strategy sessions with the Republican Congressional leadership, ensuring alignment of message.
  4. 4.    Educate the public as to why we feel the course we are offering is better for the country – short and long term.
  5. 5.    Most importantly: ACT!

The five points outlined above are, of course, just basic, Mr. Steele, and I have some pretty good ideas as to how they can be accomplished, which I am more than happy to share with you.

Let’s talk!

[Note:  Putting my "mouth" where my "money" is, I actually emailed this blog entry to Mike Steele.  Let's see if he will respond!]
